Background
CAPG is a community-based, resident-led, organization that has been involved in the northwest Toronto communities for over seven years. Situated predominantly in the Jane Finch community, with residents from Wards 7 and 1, and supporters from other parts of Toronto, CAPG has organized residents and others to support improvements in local planning and development. Members led a Northwest Transit Action group to fight for better transit services along Finch Avenue West and intersecting roads, leading to advocacy for the Finch West Light Rail Trains proposed originally by Transit City and then, years later, by Metrolinx (the transit agency of the Province).
A full community engagement process led to a funded feasibility study for the Centre, involving over 750 residents/supporters.
The development of the proposed Business Plan for the construction and establishment for a Community Hub and Centre of the Arts will enable the client to:
- understand the opportunities for investment in the design and construction of this community-built, community-run Centre. Plan strategically for its development and operation, and help identify sources of funds and best approaches to use in obtaining them
- plan for the sustainability of the ongoing operations of the Centre without relying on government or charitable funding by developing income sources and investors who will help the community with this project
- make informed decisions regarding establishment of the organization and governance
