Description

YEC is planning to replace 12.5 MWs of retiring diesel units in line with its 10-year Renewable Electricity Plan. The dependable capacity from these projects will help to address existing and forecast capacity shortfall under the N-1 Planning criterion. The Corporation currently rents diesel units in Whitehorse and Faro to meet electricity peak demands and N-1 Planning requirements in the winter season. The thermal replacement project will address the following:

1. Installation of 5 MWs in Whitehorse WD0 plant to replace previously retired 5 MWs.
2. Installation of 5 MWs in Faro FD0 to replace upcoming retirement of 5.1 MW, and
3. Installation of 2.5 MWs at the S250 Callison Substation near Dawson City to replace the upcoming retirement of 2.5 MWs in DD0 Dawson City.
