DESCRIPTION OF PROCUREMENT
The University is conducting an RFP for Thermal Analysis System.
The Department of Materials Science & Engineering intends to purchase one (1) Thermal Analysis System
The Thermal Analysis System (System) will be used in a research laboratory focused on high temperature materials processes. The lab supports research primarily related to the mining and metals industries and to investigate such processes as melting and phase transformation, decomposition, sintering, calcination, roasting, and gas-solid/liquid reactions. The samples tested will be subjected to various gases including CO, H2, CO2, O2, Ar, N2, H2S, and SO2. For improved interactions between gas and the solid/liquid sample, a vertical arrangement is preferred where the gas impinges on the surface of the solid/liquid, rather than flowing perpendicular to its surface. The concentration of the gases and their flowrate for safety and health reasons are controlled outside the system by the user, using a combination of flow controllers, gas sensors/monitors, and ventilation systems. The sample may be a metal, or a compound such as metal sulfide or oxide, carbonates, etc. Sample mass in the measurements is typically in the 20-100 mg range, although a larger capacity is beneficial
The procurement is anticipated to involve negotiation. An electronic auction is not anticipated.
