SFU invites proponents to participate in a competitive procurement process to identify qualified abatement contractors for the removal of hazardous materials from the 5000-level of the W.A.C. Bennett Library, located at the Burnaby Campus of Simon Fraser University.
It is anticipated this RFSQ process (“Phase 1”) will result in a list of Qualified Abatement Contractor(s) who will be invited to participate in a Request For Proposal process (“Phase 2”) during the next phase of the competitive procurement process. It’s highly recommended that only those firms who are prepared to invest the resources required for Phase 2 should respond to Phase 1 of the competitive procurement process. Final details of Phase 2 will be provided to the prequalified proponents.
The primary abatement scope is the removal of an asbestos-containing texture coat throughout the 5000-level of the Library, approximately 85,000 square feet. Additionally, it is necessary to remove texture coat overspray from concealed ceiling areas, within an area of about 15,000 square feet. The abatement work will need to be completed as part of a phased approach, and the successful contractor would need to work closely with the Construction Manager and other trade contractors to plan and execute the work in such a way that allows for the book stacks to remain on the 5000-level during the course of the work. It is anticipated that there will be approximately 18 phases, with abatement and reinstatement work happening concurrently in adjacent areas.
See RFSQ documentation package for details and requirements.
