SFU is seeking a Pyrosequencer; Basic configuration:

Read lengths over 100bp (required)
Automated template preparation, primer dispensation and cartridge washing (preferred)
Low running volumes (10-15 µL) (preferred)
Touchscreen controls/user interface (preferred)
Multiple-primer dispensation (preferred)

Research Overview:
The researcher requires the capability to accurately measure levels of epigenetic modification (CpG methylation) in DNA, for large numbers of individuals, with high throughput and high efficiencies in sample preparation and handling.
In particular, the researcher requires the capabilities to efficiently collect data on CpG methylation for specific targeted regions and sites in the human genome that have been identified in previous whole-genome, theoretical-genetic, and medical-genetic studies as exhibiting functional properties that impact upon psychological, cognitive, and affective phenotypes in typical, healthy humans. These regions and sites must be quantified for CpG methylation for large numbers of individuals (always greater than several hundred, and in some cases over 1000), usually for a relatively small number of CpG sites; these subjects have also been genotyped for the relevant loci to assess genetic variation and they have been subject to specific cognitive and psychological testing, via questionnaires and cognitive tasks, that are predicted to be mediated by genetic and epigenetic variation in the focal genes and genomic regions.
