ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM – NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SINGLE SOURCE CONTRACT

The Royal Ontario Museum (the ROM) intends to award a single source contract to Research Casting International for the purchase of the following:
Mounts, skeletons, and models required for a ROM Gallery, including delivery and installation as follows:
ROM Mistaken Point (slab 1 and slab 4) mounting
ROM Mistaken Point bronze cast 3’ x5’
ROM Cambrian trackway cutting
Tiktaalik mounted bronze
Dukleosteus bronze – skull and wire frame body
Dimetrodon jaw – bronze
ROM Dimetrodon refurbishment
ROM Edaphosaurus refurbishment
ROM Longosuchus mounting
Eryops skeleton
Dimetrodon skeleton
To the best of our knowledge, Research Casting International is the only source offering this full portfolio and expertise, with full research and modelling expertise to process such skeletons and specimens, possessing the large and specialized facilities and blacksmithing operations to mount, mould, and cast large animals like dinosaurs. Research Casting also holds the exclusive rights to the molds for the Mistaken Point slabs required to produce the bronze. Regarding mounting the ROM Mistaken Point slab, RCI produced the existing ROM cast and have the unique knowledge of how to install the cast they produced without damage. The ROM Cambrian Trackway is in their studio, would require heavy machinery to move prior to cutting, and moving the slab prior to cutting would put the object at increased risk. RCI owns the mould to produce the bronze cast of Dimetrodon, Eryops, and Dimetrodon, and they are uniquely qualified to refurbish the ROM’s ROM Edaphosaurus and Longosuchus objects.
It is therefore our intention to enter into contract discussions with this vendor.
This is an Advanced Contact Award Notice (ACAN) with the
intention to:
• notify the vendor community that we believe there is only
one source for goods/services described herein;
• notify the vendor community that we plan to enter into
contract with said source for these goods/services; and
• allow for other vendors to submit notice that they also
offer exactly such goods/services.
Providers fully compliant to the requirements set forth herein may submit their interest and statement of capabilities, in writing, to the contact person identified in this ACAN on or before the
closing date. Should any other potential suppliers be identified during the posting period, the ROM will proceed to invite all fully compliant Respondents to participate in a competitive procurement process.
If no other fully compliant supplier submits their interest, on or before the closing date of this ACAN, the competitive requirements of the ROM are considered to have been met. Following notification to any suppliers not successful in demonstrating that they meet the requirements set out in this ACAN, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.
