Finding Your Next Engineering Contract

Are you looking for a quick and efficient way to find engineering opportunities? On Merx you can find tendering opportunities that match with your business, all on one platform, saving you time and resources.

The Canadian federal government spends billions of dollars a year funding various new research and development, information technology, and science projects. In FY 2022, the Canadian government spent approximately $4.6 billion on IT contracts, including many engineering opportunities. According to Statistics Canada, the federal government is also expected to spend approximately $14.3 billion in FY 2022/2023 on science and technology. Over the next few years, especially with new infrastructure projects on the horizon, there will be thousands of engineering opportunities issued by various government agencies that your business can get involved in.

What’s Out There for Your Business?

Merx is all about helping simplify the bidding process for your business. We’ve published over 7,000 tenders related to engineering since the start of 2022 and there are currently over 700 tenders that are still open to bid on. Looking through closed and awarded tenders before you start bidding on the ones that are still open will give you an idea of how you may want to position your next proposal. By seeing who your competition may be, what the documents and specifications were, and how much the contract was awarded for, you will be better prepared for future opportunities you decide to bid on. Here is a sample of recently closed engineering tenders to give you an idea of what you can find on Merx:

How to Ensure You Receive Matching Engineering Tenders

Since there are thousands of tenders issued by federal, provincial, and local governments, we want to ensure you find the ones that matter to your business. That’s why setting up your category codes is essential. We have three different category code classifications: Merx Categories, GSIN Categories, and UNSPSC Categories. Simply scroll through the list or type in keywords like “engineering” to find all the category codes that match with the products and services your business sells and add them to your account. Once that’s complete, you’ll be able to see matching tenders and receive email alerts when we find matching tenders for you. Below are some examples of categories you may want to select:

Merx Categories

  • N3 – Architect and Engineering Services

UNSPSC Categories

  • 71151400 – Well Service Engineering
  • 81100000 – Professional Engineering Services
  • 81101500 – Civil Engineering
  • 81101600 – Mechanical Engineering
  • 81101700 – Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • 81111500 – Software or Hardware Engineering

After selecting the category codes that apply to your business, you may also want to set up search parameters. These can be saved using our Save Search feature, allowing you to go back at any time to see what new opportunities have been issued related to your search. You can add parameters such as solicitation status, organization, location, closing date, keywords, and more. Adding keywords is a great way to narrow down your search. You can add things like “engineering”, “civil engineering”, or “engineer” to find relevant opportunities.

Now that you’ve set up your profile so that it fits your business needs, you’ll be all set to start finding and bidding on opportunities more efficiently.
