It is that time of the year again when the federal government starts pushing some projects before the budget closes. As a reminder, the federal government’s fiscal year-end is every March 31. The Budget for FY 2022-2023

The 2022 budget, which was passed on June 23, 2022, has some big provisions that might interest you, one of which is to provide $2.75 billion for the Universal Broadband Fund to support Internet access in rural areas. Another interesting provision is the $55 million funding to maintain the Trans Canada Trail.

There is also $4 billion in funding for the construction of 100,000 new housing units for the next 5 years. $346 million is allocated to train firefighters and provide them with new equipment, and $169 million for a new wildfire satellite monitor system.

  • British Columbia:
    • 2022: $71 billion
    • 2023: $83.3 billion (forecast)
  • Quebec:
    • 2022: $126.6 billion
    • 2023: $143.3 billion (forecast)
