2023-07-21 - Contract for Consulting Services - Turtle Island House

UWindsor is inviting proposals from qualified Proponents to provide consulting services to create Turtle Island House from an existing house and lot located at 223 Sunset Ave.   Proponent services shall include Indigenous knowledge and expertise to assist with the programming vision for the Turtle Island House.  The consultant shall formulate a plan based on UWindsor and the Indigenous Education Council (EAC) input, expectations, current and developing trends, and best practices in a post-secondary Indigenous education environment. 

Goals of our Turtle Island House project include:
 

1. Indigenous architecture with connectivity to the University of Windsor.
2. Relationships with the land and water.
3. Design Indigenous teaching, learning and cultural safe spaces to improve student experience.
4. Conduct a comprehensive review and collaboration sessions of Indigenous campus needs and develop a space plan.
5. Create and develop Indigenous multi-purpose spaces (with connection to the outdoors) to increase engagement and education of the campus and broader community.
6. Provide sustainable approach to the project development, suppliers, products and materials.
7. Digital technologies to enhance spaces and teaching.
8. Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems.
9. Develop and create a welcoming, safe, accessible, and comfortable spaces for learning, collaboration, research and independent study (including space, furniture and environmental factors).
