1. - Background Information

We hereby invite your company (proponent) to partner with the University of Ottawa in this great project funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Research Fund by submitting an offer to this Request for Proposals and by including an in-kind contribution.

Please find attached the Request for Proposals documentation with specifications and the CFI guidelines pricing format to be completed and returned with your proposal.

1. - Statement of Requirements
  1. The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a ultrafast laser system that will support the research activities in Prof. Weck’s group aimed at:
Investigating fundamental laser-mater interactions on various materials (metals, dielectrics, composites, etc.)
Creating millimetre, micron and submicron scale features on various materials (with limited heat affected zone)
Texturing the surface of materials rapidly over large areas (morphological and chemical texturing, as well as localized heating for phase/morphology transformation)

                General Description:

The ultrafast laser system should be able to machine and texture materials (metals, dielectrics, composites, etc.) at various scales (from submicron to milimeters, high beam quality required) at high speeds over large areas (high repetition rate, burst mode) with (high rep rate, ps pulse length) and without (low rep rate, fs pulse length) collateral damage to the surrounding material.

The ultrafast laser system must have:
•               A 1030nm wavelength
•               High pulse energy
•               High beam quality
•               Low and High repetition rates
•               Burst modes
•               Adjutable pulse lengths from fs to ps
•               Be stable over extended periods of time
•               Allow for accessing both amplified and oscillator beams

The environment where the equipment will be placed is on an optical table in a temperature-controlled lab at the University of Ottawa.

Specifications listed in Appendix A – Technical Specifications Compliance Form of this RFP are the mandatory minimum requirements for the Ultrafast Laser System.

1. 1. Should any equipment included in a proposal be superseded by a newer model during the period of time between the award of contract and the delivery date, the successful Proponent will be required to inform the University of Ottawa of the new specifications, the newer model pricing will remain the same as what was offered in the RFP. At its sole discretion, the University of Ottawa may opt to make changes from the list of equipment by altering, adding, or deducting some equipment.
