1. - Background Information

1. - Statement of Requirements

The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a fully automated instrument for accurate column-breakthrough measurements of multicomponent adsorption, including gas-vapor mixtures in the presence of porous adsorbents.

General Description:

The instrument will be able to accommodate any gas/vapour mixture to be investigated under dynamic conditions, leading to new insights into co-adsorption and displacement phenomena, including adsorption of CO2 in the presence of water vapour, volatile organic compounds, oxygen, methane and other hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxide, and hydrogen sulfide. Our investigations involve a wide variety of adsorbents, such as amine-containing materials, zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, porous polymers, and others. In addition, the instrument will be used to study adsorption dynamics and kinetics, and to measure single and multicomponent adsorption isotherms. Simulation of adsorption isotherms and breakthrough curves should be possible.

The instrument must allow for automated column-breakthrough adsorption measurements for gas/vapour mixtures at pressures up to at least 5 atm, in the temperature range of 10 to 90 ℃.

The instrument must allow for material pretreatment at temperature up to at least 300 ℃.

The instrument must be suitable to investigate a wide variety of solid sorbents, including microporous and mesoporous materials.

The instrument should include tools for selectivity calculation, and simulation of adsorption isotherms and breakthrough curves.

The instrument must be fully interfaced with an existing residual gas analyzer (MKS Cirrus 3)

Any future upgrade of the software should be provided.

A separate document with clear answers to all statements in Appendix A and B is desirable.

Specifications listed in Appendix A – Technical Specifications Compliance Form of this RFP are the mandatory minimum requirements for the Selective Adsorption Analyzer.

Should any equipment included in a proposal be superseded by a newer model during the period between the award of contract and the delivery date, the successful Proponent will be required to inform the University of Ottawa of the new specifications, the newer model pricing will remain the same as what was offered in the RFP. At its sole discretion, the University of Ottawa may opt to make changes from the list of equipment by altering, adding, or deducting some equipment.
