1. - Background Information

1. - Statement of Requirements

The University of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a Photovoltaic Characterization – Quantum Efficiency Measurement System to support research activities in the University of Ottawa’s SUNLAB, relating to photovoltaic device characterization. The system will be used characterize the quantum efficiency and reflectance of photovoltaic devices including:

Solar cells composed of Si, II-VI, and/or III-V semiconductors
Solar cells composed of organic and perovskite materials
Thin film solar cells
Multi-junction solar cells
Photonic power converters that convert monochromatic laser light
Thermophotovoltaic cells that convert heat
Betavoltaic devices that harvest beta particles

General Description:

The University requires a versatile and robust Photovoltaic Characterization – Quantum Efficiency Measurement System to characterize external and internal quantum efficiency and reflectance of photovoltaic devices based on a wide range of materials. The system must have:
A minimum wavelength range of 300-1800 nm for both quantum efficiency and reflectance (250-2500 nm is strongly preferred)
An adjustable beam size (minimum beam size of 2 mm or less in the largest dimension is strongly preferred)
Specular reflectance measurement capability (additional optional diffuse reflectance strongly preferred)
Built-in voltage biasing and light biasing capabilities
Conductive, temperature-controlled sample holder with vacuum hold and motion stage
High degree of stability and measurement repeatability over extended periods of time
Simple, fast, and reliable calibration process

The system will be installed in a temperature-controlled lab at the University of Ottawa on an optical table.
