Description:
The University of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a bid for an Oscilloscope System.

General Description:

The requested GHz oscilloscope is a critical instrument to implement a single-pulse THz characterization system able to trace molecular resonances on the hard-to-access µs time scale. The experimental concept is based on a dispersive Fourier transform technique in which optical pulses, dispersed in a km-long fiber and detected with a fast photodiode, are analyzed by the requested GHz oscilloscope to extract their individual spectral intensity in the time domain with a resolution approaching the nanosecond. A single-pulse THz spectrometer is formed when this technique is combined with a nonlinear effect encoding a THz waveform onto the spectral components of a chirped near-infrared pulse. Such a system can monitor unique phenomena featuring fast and non-reproducible dynamics with a sensitivity and resolution ultimately limited by the performance of the oscilloscope.

Specifications listed in Appendix A – Technical Specifications Compliance of this RFQ are the mandatory minimum requirements for the Oscilloscope System.

Mandatory Minimum Requirements for the Oscilloscope System:

1.Oscilloscope System
1.1 - The equipment must have 8 GHz (or more) bandwidth
1.2 - The equipment must have an analog sample rate of 40 GSample/s (or more) on 2 (or more) channels.
1.3 - The equipment must have 4 channels (or more) with at least two of them fully loaded. “Fully loaded” means no decrease in record length, sampling rate, bandwidth.
1.4 - The equipment must have 12-bit (or more) vertical resolution at ≥ 4 GHz (otherwise known as ADC resolution).
1.5 - The equipment must have 0.5 GPts record length (or more).
1.6 - The equipment must have a segmented memory: ability to record during a finite period of time after receiving a burst trigger, and repeat this process for a finite number of events.
1.7 - The equipment must have RMS noise 1mV/div at 4 GHz equal or better than 100 µV.
1.8 - The equipment must allow a standalone operation.

2. Installation and Warranty
2.1 - Must include one (1) year warranty on parts and labor.

3. Safety
3.1 - The system and all options must be CSA approved or have an accepted CSA equivalent labelling that is listed at the following Electrical Safety Authority link: https://esasafe.com/electrical-products/recognized-certification-marks/. Proponent must assume all costs related to the CSA (or equivalent) certification.
