Description

BACKGROUND:
Notice is hereby given by the University of Ottawa of the intent to enter into a contract with Magstim EGI to procure:

A complete Magstim EGI GTEN 200 Research Neuromodulatory System, comprising:
- 128 Channel Integrated HD-EEG + Electrical Simulation System
- 128-channel gel caps for long sleep recordings
- 128-channel saline caps for short wakefulness recordings
- GeoScan Sensor Digitization system
- Apple Desktop computer
- 16-channel peripheral physiology expansion
- All necessary accessories and start-up kit
- Training and extended warranty support

PROCESS;
Suppliers who consider their equipment functional, successfully tested, readily available and fully compliant to the ACAN minimum requirements may submit in writing a statement of specifications to the contact person identified in this Notice, on or before the closing date of this Notice. In the statement of specifications, the supplier must unequivocally demonstrate how their equipment, at minimum, equals or exceeds the stated requirements.

If no other supplier submits a statement of specifications, on or before the closing date of this Notice, the competitive requirements of the University of Ottawa will be considered having been met.
Following notification to suppliers not successful in unequivocally demonstrating that their statement of specifications equals or exceeds the requirements set out in this Notice, the contract may then be awarded to the pre-identified supplier.

INTENDED USE:

This system will be integrated into the new and existing behavioural and cognitive testing and physiology systems located in the Sleep Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa.

The system is intended to be used to flexibly carry out simultaneous daytime cognitive and behavioural testing as well as be suitable for sleep recordings.

The system must be able to carry out simultaneous high-density EEG and electrical stimulation.

FUNCTIONALITY:
The system must conform to the following minimum requirements:

Must be a single and completely integrated high-density EEG and neuromodulatory system capable of:
1. high density (128-channel or greater) EEG for sleep and wake recordings
2. direct current (TDCS)
3. alternating current (TACS)
4. pulsed current (TPCS)
Must be fully compatible with existing data processing and analysis software and pipelines in MATLAB and EEGLAB, including scalp location information.
Must be Apple (Mac) compatible and run in a MacOS environment.
Must have the ability to record EEG concurrently with neuromodulation to evaluate neuromodulatory effects on brain activity.
Must have the flexibility to customize TDCS stimulation pattern.
Must be suitable for sleep recording and analysis (in terms of comfort and appropriate EEG caps).
Must have a high enough density sensory array for the research requirements (e.g., ~ 128 channels)
Raw data must be in open data format (not EDF only), non-proprietary format.
The system must be capable of 128 stimulation electrodes in a single, completely integrated EEG-TDCS system implemented without requiring other separate systems, or additional components.

Justification of Pre-Selected Supplier:
Supplier: Magstim EGI
Justification: Magstim EGI are leaders in the field and their system is the most established hardware and software available. Their system is the gold standard for the intended use and is most widely used in the field. The Magstim EGI GTEN 200 Research Neuromodulatory System is compatible with our existing software that we have developed in-house and with other software platforms that we use (MacOS compatible code for data analysis on MATLAB and in EEGLAB) and is interoperable with our previously collected data as well as with data that is shared with our collaborator, which have the same/similar systems. The GTEN 200 system is required due to its unique implementation as one single integrated system that is needed to reduce the complexity of two independent systems; i.e., any electrode can be used for stimulation or recording, and it has the ability to record EEG concurrently with neuromodulation to evaluate neuromodulatory effects on brain activity. It also has a completely flexible approach to customizing neuromodulatory stimulation patterns and can be easily integrated with MRI brain scans from our site at the Brain Imaging Centre at the Royal.
