Project Overview
The McMaster University Peter George Centre for Living and Learning (the “Project”) includes the construction, fit-out, and furnishing of a new academic and student residence building at the University’s Hamilton Campus. The overall scope of work being undertaken as part of the Project is as follows:
Academic Facilities
One 640 and one 515 seat tiered auditorium, one 400 seat Active Learning classroom, and 7 large classrooms will be constructed.
The two tiered auditoriums are not part of the scope of the furniture package. The Active Learning classroom consists of 405 loose seats and 45 hardwired nine seaters round tables. The classrooms total approximately 650 loose chairs, associated flip-top tables, and a height-adjustable instructor table per classroom.
Student Café
Ground floor café with 175 seat cafeteria-style food service open to the entire campus. 30% built in banquets and bench seating and 70% loose tables and chairs. Modern, clear aesthetic with durable un-upholstered chairs.
Student Services and Wellness Centre
Student medical and mental health services with exam rooms, counsel rooms, doctor charting areas, waiting area, reception, meeting rooms, meditation room, staff room and auxiliary service spaces.
New furniture is being sought to augment the existing furniture. The new furniture scope includes soft seating for the waiting area, task chairs for exam and counsel rooms, loose seating and tables for the charting area and staff room, file storage, and modular case goods.
Children’s Centre
The existing facilities will be relocating to the new LLC building and bringing with them 75% of the furnishings. The new facility includes 5 toddler and preschool playrooms for approximately 80 children total, along with one infant care room for 10 children. The space is accessible from a private elevator and is otherwise closed-off from the remainder of the building. The Children’s Centre has a large outdoor terrace attached to the south side, with associated children’s play furniture and accessories.
Furnishings include new children’s soft seating, including a sofa and variously-shaped foam ottomans, rugs, and a toddler-specific dining table. Additional storage units and children’s imaginative play furniture to match the existing will be required. The outdoor terraces will be furnished with new picnic tables, sand boxes, planters, and a bench to complement the Children’s Centre’s existing outdoor furniture.
Student Accommodation
Student residence suites are located on seven floors above the academic floors of the building. There are a total of 336 bedrooms housing 518 students. Each of the 7 residential floors has two kitchen/lounge areas and two large study rooms.
The bedroom suites each have a bed, clothes storage unit, desk, and chair. The bedroom suites furniture are not part of the scope of the furniture package. The kitchen/lounges and study rooms are furnished with a variety of loose chairs, tables, and soft seating.
