Description

McMaster University is in the planning and engineering phase for the supply, installation, and operating of five (5) – 2.0 MW natural gas generators on campus to provide load displacement and peak shaving service for the campus and become a class A participant in the IESO Market.
The five (5) generators will be part of two (2) separate installation projects and will be located at two locations on campus .

Four (4) of the generators to be installed and integrated with the NF 91 substation transformers on campus and will be connected to 13.8 kV Line 1 and Line 2 via new 13.8kV breakers and switchgear.
The fifth generator to be installed adjacent to the Campus Central Plant at ET Clarke, Building 12 and be tied into the emergency power and generators. The generator installed at ET Clarke will be connected to the existing 13.8kV switchgear at the Central Utilities Building. In addition to load displacement and peak shaving, this generator will also be able to supply emergency power to three campus buildings.[GL1]

The five (5) generators will be received by two (2) separate General Contractors who will be responsible for installation of generators. This contract may be assigned to said General Contractors.
McMaster University is currently in the process of soliciting engineering firms to complete the design and integration of the generators into the systems on campus along with upgrades of ancillary equipment, infrastructure to support the generators, and all required permits and ministry applications.
McMaster will award the tender to a single proponent however the award of the tender will be broken in 2 separate orders. The first order will be for the 4 generators to be installed at the NF 91 substation and the second order will be for the 1 generator to be installed at ET Clarke Central Plant. McMaster University reserves the right to assign the proponent Purchase Orders & associated contract to the Prime Contractor(s) or each of the respective projects so the Prime Contractor(s) has full autonomy for the scheduling and coordinating delivery, start-up, commissioning etc.
