Description

Background and Purpose

McMaster University and the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (CCEM) have a requirement for a high resolution x-ray computed tomography (XCT) system with capabilities for absorption contrast tomography, phase contract tomography, as well as diffraction contrast tomography.
XCT provides non-destructive 3D imaging of materials and specimens, and offers invaluable scientific insight into microstructure and micro-scale phenomena. A highly focused x-ray source and high resolution detector allow for such analysis to be conducted at finer length scales. Combined with the capability for thermal-mechanical testing equipment to operate on the specimens while imaging, in situ materials analysis can also be performed. Advanced systems for generating contrast based on x-ray beam diffraction, traditionally limited to synchrotron x-ray facilities, can further expand on the crystallographic information available by a laboratory scale XCT system.
In addition to standalone XCT imaging, a high resolution XCT system at CCEM serves to complement the existing research infrastructure on micron to sub-nanometer 3D material analysis (e.g. focused ion beam tomography, transmission electron microscope tomography). This opens numerous opportunities for multi-length scale correlative characterization at CCEM.
The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to signal McMaster University’s intention to award a contract for the above-noted goods and/or services to the following pre-selected supplier:

Prior to awarding this contract, McMaster University is providing other potential suppliers with the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying the requirements as per this ACAN, by submitting a Statement of Capabilities Form during the posting period.

If other potential suppliers submit a Statement of Capabilities Form that meet McMaster University’s requirements as set out in the ACAN, McMaster University may proceed to a competitive procurement process.

If no other supplier submits a Statement of Capabilities Form on or before the closing date/time, a contract may be awarded to the above-noted pre-selected supplier.
