Description

Background and Purpose

McMaster University has a requirement for a dual-beam focused ion beam (FIB) scanning electron microscope (SEM) with Ga ion source with attached rapid laser ablation unit.
Dual-beam FIB-SEM instruments are in constant demand at the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy (CCEM) at McMaster University, due to their growing role in advanced materials analysis and sample preparation for both transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atom probe tomography (APT). A key benefit of FIB-SEMs for both of these purposes is in finding site-specific areas for analysis / sample preparation. The addition of an attached rapid laser ablation unit further enhances these capabilities of the FIB-SEM. By providing a correlated, rapid material removal system, a FIB-SEM with a laser addition can quickly and efficiently remove material to speed up workflows or expose deeply buried regions of interest. Furthermore, this system opens the possibility for correlative analysis workflows by bridging from larger-scale non-destructive testing (e.g. x-ray micro-CT analysis) down to nanoscale TEM or APT analysis.
The purpose of this Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to signal McMaster University’s intention to award a contract for the above-noted goods and/or services to the following pre-selected supplier:

Prior to awarding this contract, McMaster University is providing other potential suppliers with the opportunity to demonstrate that they are capable of satisfying the requirements as per this ACAN, by submitting a Statement of Capabilities Form during the posting period.

If other potential suppliers submit a Statement of Capabilities Form that meet McMaster University’s requirements as set out in the ACAN, McMaster University may proceed to a competitive procurement process.

If no other supplier submits a Statement of Capabilities Form on or before the closing date/time, a contract may be awarded to the above-noted pre-selected supplier.
