180112 - Civil General Contractor - Reconstruction & Expansion of Apron II

The Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport Authority (OMCIAA) is seeking to prequalify Civil General Contractors for an upcoming tender for the reconstruction and expansion of Apron II at the Ottawa Macdonald- Cartier International Airport. Prequalified tenderers will be invited to submit tenders during the first quarter of 2018. Construction is anticipated to commence in May 2018 and be completed by the end of September 2018.
 
The construction component of the project will include the demolition and removal of the existing Portland cement concrete (PCC) panels and subsurface soils, removal and replacement of the storm drainage system within the apron footprint, installation of subbase and base granular material, and new PCC paving including saw cutting and sealing of the new apron to meet design lines and grades. Small amount of cold-milling and hot-mix asphalt paving will be included to tie the apron to the existing pavements to the north, east and west. Provision and installation of temporary and permanent security fencing is to be included. The project also includes removal and replacement of the various airfield electrical infrastructure within the apron footprint including supply and installation of new high mast apron floodlighting.
 
The total apron footprint (reconstruction and expansion areas) is approximately 36,000 sq.m. with the new 380mm thick PCC panel portion covering the majority of the apron area.
 
This is the first stage in a two-stage competitive selection process whereby interested firms are invited to provide a Statement of Qualification that clearly demonstrates:

• A full range of professional, technical and managerial skills as required to deliver a quality product within well-defined parameters of scope, quality, time and cost.
• An exemplary track record of achievement in the delivery of comparable projects within a highly exposed operating environment.
• Previous experience of Key Personnel conducting similar work.
• Airfield construction experience (note: while the majority of work area will be considered landside, some work will take place on the active airside).
