West Lincoln Memorial Hospital - Background and Identity

The community of Grimsby and surrounding region has been served by West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (“WLMH”) for over 70 years.   In 2013, the independent WLMH was merged into the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation (“HHSC”) organization.  Throughout its long history, WLMH has fostered a unique relationship between caregivers and the community.  Many staff are local residents and share aspects of their home, community and family life with the same children and adults they care for professionally.  This longstanding relationship has led to a unique bond between the hospital and its community – a bond that operates at many levels.  In some respects, there is no ‘boundary’ per-se, between the hospital and the community.  Over the past two decades, this extended community has advocated with a committed, consistent, insistent and unanimous voice to rebuild and renew WLMH.  This project is proof of their achievement and evidence of a ‘comraderie’ and ‘esprit’ that palpably defines the people that make up the WLMH family.

As a result, this project is more than the simple replacement of an antiquated piece of healthcare infrastructure.  It is a new focal point for the community.  It is a central piece of daily life in Grimsby and the West Niagara region.  It bookends the journey of life for many and is a key waypoint in-between.  It is the workplace of the unique team of people who support and collaborate with each other to deliver the best comprehensive healthcare and wellness for their community.  Indeed, there is a special ‘spirit’ among the WLMH team that has grown strong despite (perhaps because of) the challenges of outmoded facilities.  The new hospital must recognize this spirit, help it flourish and enable it to be passed on to future generations while offering the best clinical environments that modern technology can offer.

WLMH – Programs & Profile

West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a community hospital site of the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation organization, located within the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant (HNHB) LHIN.

The rebuilt “WLMH” will be home to four anchor programs:

• 24-hour Emergency Care
• Maternal & Newborn Care (providing low-risk births)
• Community Surgery (focusing on low-risk day surgery)
• Community Medicine (focusing on healthy aging and seniors’ care)
