2017-95 - Professional Engineering Services for Birch's Road Standpipe Coating, Repairs

The Birch’s Road standpipe is a 38.5m high welded-steel standpipe constructed in 1982 with a capacity of 2.4MG. It is located at the intersection of Booth Road and Birch’s Road, in North Bay, Ontario. The standpipe is currently fed from the North Bay Water Treatment Plant.
The standpipe supplies municipal water to Zone 1A for the City of North Bay via a 500mm watermain. The valve chamber contains valves that control the operation of the standpipe. Control of the 500mm feed is via an Altitude Valves.
The City intends to replace existing coating system on the interior and exterior of the standpipe.
As part of this assignment the Consultant will be expected to review all interior and exterior structural and life safety components of the standpipe and include the replacement and rehabilitation of such in the capital contract.
The standpipe is experiencing coating de-lamination. Chalking, mud-cracking, lichen growth, peeling, and corrosion are also evident. Refer to Appendix B "North Bay Welded Steel Standpipe Clean, Inspection and Report (CIR) – June 13, 2014" for additional information on the condition of the internal and external coating systems.
